Pyongyang/Seoul, June 19, 2025 — In a dramatic escalation during ongoing Middle East tensions, North Korea has fired more than 10 short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) from the Sunan area near the capital, Pyongyang, toward the northwest. The launches took place early Thursday morning, according to a statement by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.
While exact details of the missile types and flight paths remain undisclosed, South Korean authorities believe the weapons were multiple-launch short-range ballistic missiles, violating United Nations Security Council resolutions which prohibit North Korea from conducting such tests.
“We are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with U.S. intelligence,” said a South Korean military spokesperson. “The provocation appears to be another step in Pyongyang’s defiance of global sanctions.”
🌍 North Korea Comments on Iran-Israel War
In a separate and rare political move, North Korea has officially condemned Israel’s recent strikes on Iran, calling them “crimes against humanity.”
Through a statement released by the state-run KCNA (Korean Central News Agency), Pyongyang warned that such aggression could ignite a full-scale war across the Middle East.
“The Israeli attack on Iran is a violation of international law and a brutal crime against humanity,” the statement said. “It destabilizes the region and threatens global peace.”
The statement marks one of the few times North Korea has publicly intervened in Middle Eastern geopolitics, signaling an emerging axis of political alignment between Tehran and Pyongyang.
⚠️ Global Tensions Rising
The missile launches — coinciding with a major conflict between Iran and Israel — are being viewed by analysts as a strategic message to the West, especially amid growing trilateral cooperation between the U.S., Japan, and South Korea.
With two of the world's most volatile military regimes now simultaneously active — North Korea in East Asia and Iran in the Middle East — global powers are increasingly concerned about a multi-regional flashpoint scenario.
