In a powerful display of strategic alignment, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping voiced strong condemnation of Israel's recent strikes on Iran during a high-level phone conversation on Thursday, June 19. The two global leaders jointly emphasized the urgency of de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and stressed that military action is not a viable solution to the growing crisis.
According to a statement released by the Kremlin, both presidents firmly agreed that a political and diplomatic resolution is the only way forward in the face of this mounting conflict.
Yuri Ushakov, Putin's senior foreign policy adviser, informed journalists that both Moscow and Beijing consider Israel’s actions a direct violation of the UN Charter and international law, highlighting their shared disapproval of the offensive maneuvers.
Putin and Xi also expressed serious concerns over the fragile state of Iran's nuclear program, insisting that the current situation must be addressed through negotiation rather than confrontation. “Military escalation would only trigger a regional catastrophe,” warned Ushakov.
State-run Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that President Xi, without naming the United States, urged major global powers to ramp up diplomatic efforts to restore calm in the region. Xi further called on all warring sides—particularly Israel—to announce an immediate ceasefire to avoid further bloodshed and regional destabilization.
He also stressed the importance of protecting civilians and requested that both Iran and Israel allow foreign nationals to safely evacuate from potential conflict zones.
The Kremlin had previously warned of the "catastrophic consequences" that could follow if hostilities between Israel and Iran intensify. Russia has also urged the United States to refrain from getting involved militarily in Israel’s aggressive operations.
