As the Iran-Israel war stretches into its eighth day, frustration is mounting inside Israel’s leadership—especially for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to veteran Israeli columnist and political analyst Gideon Levy, Netanyahu and his coalition are growing deeply anxious over Donald Trump’s apparent hesitation to immediately jump into the conflict.
Writing in Haaretz and speaking to Al Jazeera, Levy noted that Trump might delay taking action for “a few weeks,” which, in Netanyahu’s view, could feel like an eternity in wartime.
"In this kind of reality, two weeks is like forever. If Trump is serious about waiting and it's not just a political bluff, then the chances of direct U.S. involvement in the war are shrinking fast," Levy warned.
The concern within Israel’s ruling faction is clear: Netanyahu wants Trump to act—fast. With the situation escalating and Iran’s responses growing more aggressive, Israel is seeking immediate Western support, particularly from its most outspoken ally.
However, Levy also emphasized that even if Israel manages to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities or missile capabilities in the short term, it won't guarantee long-term safety.
"Nothing will be truly resolved. Iran can rebuild its capabilities. And Israel still faces endless security challenges—like Gaza, which never goes away," he added.
This ongoing conflict, which began on June 13, has already resulted in heavy casualties on both sides, igniting fears of a broader regional war that could destabilize the entire Middle East.
Analysts say this may be the most dangerous flashpoint in the region since the U.S. invasion of Iraq—only this time, the stakes involve potential nuclear escalation.
