No Need for Iran’s Help — It’s Israel That Needs Support, Says Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri
Lebanon’s powerful Parliament Speaker and prominent Shiite leader Nabih Berri has made it clear that Lebanon doesn’t require assistance from Iran in its ongoing tensions with Israel. Instead, Berri argued that it is Israel that will need international support.
In a televised interview with MTV Lebanon on Thursday night, Berri confidently declared, “I am 200% sure — Lebanon will not get involved in any war. Our nation has no appetite for conflict. Going to war would come at an extremely high cost, and we cannot afford that.”
His comments come at a time when speculation has been swirling around Lebanon’s role as tensions between Iran and Israel escalate. Many assumed that Hezbollah-aligned Lebanon might side with Iran, given its close ties to Tehran. However, Berri’s remarks send a clear message that Lebanon will stay out of the fight.
He continued, “Iran doesn’t need Lebanon. In fact, it’s Israel that will need help from others.”
Notably, Nabih Berri is widely regarded as a close ally of Hezbollah in Lebanon’s political landscape. Even so, his remarks emphasize Lebanon’s desire to stay removed from direct conflict with Israel and focus on its own national stability.
